A robust student dance company performance experience!
2018-19 Performance Season
As the separate performance component of The Mid Shore Dance Academy, Mid Shore Dance Theatre provides a robust performance experience beyond the annual school recital for developing and pre-professional level dancers.
This student dance company is open to experienced dancers ages 12 and up that demonstrate a commitment to their dance education, and have reached at least an intermediate level of dance technique.
Mid Shore Dance Theatre is separated into three separate performance ensembles, Ballet Theatre, Contemporary Dance Theatre, and Performance Tap. These separate ensembles each provide a company class and rehearsal experience, and dancers can elect to participate in any or all of the ensembles, given that their technique is at an appropriate level. Performance opportunities may include, but are not limited to: Holiday performances, the MD State Dance Festival, First Night Talbot, our Annual Spring Benefit Concert, nursing facility performances, and various community events.
Ballet Theatre: will provide dancers with a broad range of ballet-based experiences, ranging from variations from the classical ballets to more contemporary and lyrical styles. Students will present excerpts of The Nutcracker as part of the of the Holiday Showcase, learn classic roles from additional ballets, such as Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, Don Quixote, etc, and will also present more contemporary works as part of First Night Talbot and the Annual Benefit Concert in the spring. Weekly class will include a variety of experiences beyond the traditional ballet class such as floor barre, center barre, contemporary music and movement, and more.
Contemporary Dance Theatre: will provide dancers with a broad range of non-classical movement styles that may include, but are not limited to modern, contemporary, jazz, musical theatre, and fusion styles. Students will present a variety of small and large group pieces as part of the Holiday Showcase, First Night Talbot, and the Annual Benefit Concert in the spring. Students will also have opportunities to explore choreography and improvisation techniques.
Performance Tap Company: as previously noted, dancers will be invited from upper level tap class at the start of the studio year, based on demonstrated level of technique and interest. The ensemble will perform a variety of styles and will include participation in the Holiday Showcase, First Night Talbot, and the Annual Benefit Concert in the spring.
