MID SHORE DANCE THEATRE

A robust student dance company performance experience!

Updates for the 2019-20 Performance Season Coming Soon!

2018-19 Performance Season

As the separate performance component of The Mid Shore Dance Academy,  Mid Shore Dance Theatre provides a robust performance experience beyond the annual school recital for developing and pre-professional level dancers.

This student dance company is open by inviatation / audition to experienced dancers ages 12 and up that demonstrate a commitment to their dance education, and have reached at least an intermediate level of dance technique.

Performance opportunities may include, but are not limited to:  Holiday performances, the MD State Dance Festival, First Night Talbot, our Annual Spring Benefit Concert, nursing facility performances, and various community events.

Additional Details:

  • Students in Mid Shore Dance Theatre must attend the summer Performance Intensive to start preparations and performance pieces for the upcoming season.  Placement auditions will take place on the first day of the Intensive  in order to group students of similar levels of technical ability
  • Choreographers will select groups of dancers for pieces.  Not all dancers will be in every piece.  Some dancers may be selected as understudies for pieces.  All dancers are expected to attend rehearsals physically and mentally prepared to learn presented material quickly with focus and attention to detail.  Dancers that have “downtime” during rehearsals are expected to remain focused on the rehearsal and keep themselves warm and prepared to dance when their turn arises.
  • Students at all levels must show a commitment to attendance to their regular classes as well all rehearsals.  Advance notice must be given to rehearsal directors for absences.  Absenteeism may affect a dancer’s placement in dance pieces.  Excessive tardiness or absenteeism may result in dismissal from the performing group.
  • There are annual administrative/costuming fees associated with participation in The Mid Shore Dance Theatre.  As a performance company, students are provided with costuming, and need only provide their own dancewear basics, or occasionally everyday clothing pieces from their closet.
  • Students in all ensembles are expected to demonstrate exemplary behavior at the studios and at all performances and community events as representatives of the studio and Mid Shore Dance Theatre.  Inappropriate behavior, use of foul language, or disrespect of fellow dancers or staff will result in the student's removal from The Mid Shore Dance Theatre.

2018-19 Performance Calendar

The following are tentative, proposed dates for the 2018-19 performance season.  Confirmation of all dates will be made with all performers and their families as soon as possible.  Not all dancers/ensembles will perform at all events.

October 19, 20, 21 ~ MD State Dance Festival ~ Chesapeake College.  This is a CONFIRMED DATE. A full weekend of master classes and performances.  A select small group will perform as part of the Student Showcase, and those dancers must register for the entire weekend.  All dancers should plan to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity and register for at least a few classes.

Saturday, November 10 ~ St. Benedict’s Holiday Bazaar ~ Ridgely, MD.  Excerpts of the upcoming Holiday Showcase will be performed.  This is an informal, outside, street performance.

December 8 & 9 ~ Holiday Showcase ~ Cadby Theatre, Chesapeake College.  Nutcracker excerpts plus a variety of holiday favorites and wintry-themed pieces will be presented.

December 31, 2018 ~ First Night Talbot ~ Prager Auditorium, Easton.  A variety-filled performance as part of the annual ‘First Night’ event.  Typically, we perform the same show twice, at 7pm and 8pm, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the “Crab Drop” and other New Year’s Eve festivities!

Late March/Early April ~ Spring Showcase & Benefit Concert ~ Cadby Theatre, Chesapeake College.  Annually we will select a local charity to receive proceeds from this event!  Great dancing for a great cause!

Sunday, May 19 ~ Early Childhood Recital ~ A select piece or two will be presented as part of the studio’s Early Childhood Recital.

Nursing facility performances will also be worked into the season, if scheduling permits.
